IPMA 2016 Annual Conference Recap & Highlights

IPMA 2016 Annual Conference

From June 19 – 24, in-plant professionals from across the nation joined us at the IPMA 2016 Annual Conference in Denver, where attendees Reached New Heights by participating in a variety of activities to enhance their professional and personal talents.

IPMA is very grateful to all those who attended the conference for their energetic participation in each and every session, as well as our outstanding vendors. With over 20 influential industry speakers, 40 educational and networking sessions, more than 150 members, and over 110 vendors, this conference had the highest participation rate in the history of the IPMA Annual Conferences! The success is a result of the enthusiasm of the members, vendors, and sponsors who joined us in Denver.

We’d like to take a minute to highlight some of our favorite happenings from this year.

We kicked off conference week by celebrating Father’s Day with an outing to Colorado Springs, where guests got to visit some of Colorado’s most beautiful natural landmarks including The Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. The gentleman who spent Father’s Day with us received a complimentary gift bag full of small treasures including exclusive IPMA edition ties, socks, and a mug.

It was all in the name of FUN! From photo missions, video challenges, and trivia questions! The Amazing Race was designed to bring teams closer than ever before by taking communication to a whole new level. With the great feedback we received about this activity, you’re sure to see this event again next year. Watch this video to see the fun that was had! Congratulations to the winning team, The Fantastic Force! We also extend a special thank you to ImprintsUSA who kindly created team shirts.

The first ever in IPMA history, members participated in a groundbreaking presentation sponsored by Canon U.S.A. Inc., where influential industry consultant, analyst, and forecaster, Dr. Joe Webb, delivered the executive summary for “The State of the In-Plant Industry: Outlook, Challenges, and Opportunities” survey.

The forward-thinking presentation by Dr. Webb was received remarkably well by attendees, who gained a world of insight from this initial statement. The executive summary set the stage for what is to come in the full report to be presented at Graph Expo 2016 in Orlando, Florida this September.

Following a tour of University of Colorado & Ricoh Innovation Center, attendees jumped on a bus to Pearl Street in Boulder, where guests participated in the Ricoh Restaurant Crawl and were treated to appetizers and cocktails, courtesy of Ricoh.

The Vendor Fair was a huge hit! It was a room packed full of vendors and attendees sharing and learning the latest on cutting edge tools and technology for the industry! Members and vendors spent time cultivating new relationships and learning how each could benefit from the other.

Congratulations to the 2016 IPMA & In-Print Award Winners! To recognize the excellence and innovation of our members, we celebrated Awards Night sponsored by Duplo, to highlight the accomplishments of our outstanding members. After a long wait, we finally announced the 2016 In-Print Best of Show winners. The Church of Scientology took the title in the offset category and in the non-offset category, Yale! During the awards dinner and prior to announcing the award winners, guests were delightfully surprised by a trio of actors disguised as attendees and a hypnotist, who broke out into full song and dance to entertain guests!

Complementing the sessions led by keynote speakers were several vastly educational sessions that discussed tips, trends, management, technology, the future of the industry, and much more.

We’d like to offer a huge round of applause to Steve Gilliland, our highly-favored keynote speaker! Gilliland’s sessions were received very well by attendees, who offered him a standing ovation at the end of both of his sessions. Feedback provided by attendees about Gilliland was nothing less than brilliant, since many participants truly resonated with his presentations. By popular demand, we’ve booked Mr. Steve Gilliland for the 2017 Annual Conference!

From 6,100 feet above sea level, all the way up in the mountains, we were literally able to reach new heights! Kindly sponsored by Canon U.S.A., Inc., we celebrated our last night together atThe Fort, one of America’s most recognized establishments. Our delicious dinners were accompanied by a beautiful view and entertainment by Ted Vigil, a John Denver tribute artist.

Guests immersed themselves in a variety of networking sessions including the Registration Reception, sponsored by Kodak, where everyone was treated to complimentary cocktails while they mingled with peers, old and new, to get settled in. Attendees were able to have professional headshots taken for their social media channels–it was a picture perfect affair.

Following the Registration Reception was the Welcome Dinner, courteously sponsored by Xerox, provided a great opportunity for networking, while being treated to dinner and drinks, as well as a performance by Megan Golden, an up-and-coming country singer, and daughter of IPMA’s very own Tammy Golden.

The hospitality suite was another preferential networking zone. Nightly, the hospitality suite was open for guests to visit after conference hours to play games and unwind with peers–this was a big hit!

Last but certainly not least, we shared a BIG announcement with our conference attendees; this year we Reached New Heights together, next year, we’ll STAND LIKE STEEL at #IPMA17 in Pittsburgh, PA., from June 11-14, 2017. Mark your calendars!

If you thought this year’s conference was great, wait till next year! The 2017 Annual Conference online registration is coming soon. See you in Pittsburgh!
