IPMA’s First Ever Public Sector Print and Mail Symposium is coming to Harrisburg, PA!

This is so exciting!!!! A 2 and a half day IPMA Road Show focused on public sector in-plant issues. From its opening reception Sunday, September 16 through the In-Plant tour of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services- Publication Department on Tuesday, September 18, and a full day of sessions Monday, September 17, you’ll experience a packed agenda of learning and networking and fun mixed in. Hosts Marcie Carr, Director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Publications, and her staff have even arranged an exclusive tour of the venue- the State Museum of Pennsylvania!

Harrisburg is Pennsylvania’s state capital and sits on the Susquehanna River. It’s a city steeped in history from the beginnings of our country, through the Civil War and Industrial Revolution to present day. Museums, the Pennsylvania General Assembly complex, riverside parks- you’ll find them all here. And its crowning glory is the capitol building- just steps from the State Museum!

It’s a cultural center and IPMA’s Public Sector Print and Mail Symposium is being held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania (http://statemuseumpa.org/ ) which combines art, natural history, history, and all things Pennsylvania to give a picture of the state’s past and present. Not many people can say they’ve attended a conference among mastodons, bears, eagles, American Indians, Civil War battle artifacts, antique cars, art, a sculpture garden, and even a giant chicken!

Get here early and go exploring! Just a short drive away is Hershey, a chocoholic’s mecca with streets lined with Hershey Kisses street lights and its very own Chocolate World (https://www.hersheys.com/chocolateworld/en_us/home.html) full of all measures of chocolate delights and a ride through the chocolate making world, complete with its own kitchy cows. Best of all, admission is free!

And then there’s the idyllic rolling farmland of the Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish country of Lancaster County. Take it all in with an Amish buggy ride or just explore. And the area is full of quaint small towns that scream Americana. With names like Bird-In-Hand and Intercourse, you’re in for an adventure. There’s even Lititz (https://lititzpa.com/), voted America’s coolest small town, where you can learn to twist a pretzel, stroll through streets of shops from artisan, to boutique, and even musical instruments. Or just grab a pastry at Dosie Dough.

If you’re a history buff, Gettysburg National Military Park (https://www.nps.gov/gett/index.htm) is just a short drive as well where you can relive the battle walking the fields, reading the monuments to explore the true picture of war- mayhem, friendly fire, and stories of the heroes that gave their lives for their cause, or getting a personal park guide to take you through and personalize the experience to your interests. And the Visitors Center is its own museum and provides an immersive experience not to be missed (https://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm ). Plus you can even follow in the steps of Abraham Lincoln. And for a unique dining experience, visit The Farnsworth House Tavern (http://www.farnsworthhouseinn.com/ ) riddled with battle bullet holes and displaying movie memorabilia from the movie Gettysburg.
