The History of IPMA
March 12, 1964
Nine individuals met in New York City to discuss the viability of a professional association dedicated to in-plant management.
The In-Plant Printing Management Association (IPMA) was created as a forum for the exchange of information and the advancement of the profession through education.
As the responsibilities of its members grew, so did the focus of the association. In 1994 the membership voted to change its name to the International Publishing Management Association to broaden its representation and strengthen its identify within the industry.
The membership voted to change its name to the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association in an effort to more accurately reflect the mission of the association and its members.
The current membership includes not only those involved in printing, publishing and graphic design, but also mailing, fulfillment and distribution from all industry segments including colleges, universities, associations, hospitals, insurance, manufacturing, primary and secondary education, religious organizations, local/state/national governments and utilities.
